Job Requirements

We are seeking a high-energy, self-motivated individual to join our team as a Contracts Specialist at our office in Oakland, California. This individual will have extensive front-line interaction with clients and will handle, with attorney supervision, the negotiation, drafting and management of a high-volume of specialized agreements necessary for the day-to-day R&D operations of dynamic life sciences companies and research institutions. These agreements include clinical trial, confidentiality, consulting, evaluation, material transfer, research collaboration and services agreements. The position requires an individual who is well-versed in industry standards and key issues in these types of agreements, and who is familiar with policies and practices of leading non-profit academic institutions and research hospitals. In addition, the Contracts Specialist will assist our clients in developing improved efficiencies in their internal contract administration processes. The Contracts Specialist will join a dedicated team of individuals with highly specialized and deep industry experience and a critical role in servicing our clients.


BA or BS degree required. Law degree or paralegal certificate not required, but valued.


A minimum of 5 years of experience negotiating contracts for life sciences organizations is required.

Technical Skills And Substantive Background

Excellent legal drafting ability is critical and must be accompanied by strong word processing and spreadsheet skills, and database knowledge. Familiarity with US and international clinical trial contracting practices, as well as common intellectual property, regulatory, data privacy, liability and insurance issues, is expected.

Other Key Capabilities

The successful candidate will have extensive client contact experience and must possess the highest caliber of professionalism and client management skills. He or she must be effective in helping clients identify strategic goals, prioritize key issues, and find (and document) pragmatic solutions to these issues, for multiple forms of transactions. Sophisticated communication skills, and comfort and confidence to interact directly with clinical operations management (and other R&D management) at biotech and pharmaceutical companies, CROs, and academic institutions and research hospitals, are crucial. The ability to prioritize and manage multiple tight deadlines in a frequently high-paced environment is necessary to achieve the productivity demanded by our service model.
